Problem/Opportunity

Medical records are often on paper and are held in private file stores at various health facilities. This prevents doctors from monitoring the patient’s health over time and also getting a holistic health of their health across specialties. This problem becomes particularly acute when patients undertake international travel. Both accessibility to their EHR and codification of the symptoms, diagnoses and treatment using universally accepted medical ontologies becomes a challenge.

Outcome

Developed a mobile app and backend to allow patients access to their prescriptions and medical reports from anywhere and codified using universal medical ontologies. This greatly eases their health management and benefits their caregiving health professionals as well as insurance companies. Allowed them to sign-up several dozen medical facilities, insurance companies and other health professionals and several hundred patients into their ecosystem. Their subscription revenues stand to increase substantially due to the growing enrollment.

Execution

Mobile application on Android using cross-platform React Native and admin/api portal as backend using the MERN stack. Future plans include using LLMs to help customers get information about health conditions, treatment options, hospital and doctor ratings, insurance recommendations etc.
